Isabeau D'Argyll, also known as Lady Igraine, or by her nickname Isi, is a member of the Knights of the Round Table. She is the adopted daughter of the Lord Chancellor, a younger stepsister to Alastair, and the hinted love interest of Grayson. However, her pledge in the fourteenth chapter may suggest her as an eventual antagonist in a future installment.

She accompanies the player during Always a Knight, Inequalities, An Endless Battle and Under Siege.

Biography Edit

Under the tutelage of Grayson, Isabeau became the youngest member to ever be inducted into the Order. As a Knight-in-training, the two developed a strong student-teacher connection, which over time evolved to a close, but guarded, relationship.

Earlier during Isabeau's life, by unspecified circumstances, she became the adoptive daughter of the Lord Chancellor.

Appearance Edit

Isabeau looks to be in her mid 20's. She has green eyes with long, reddish-brown hair, braided on opposite sides and joined together into a bun. She is of average stature and thin frame. An interesting feature are the claw-marks scarred onto her neck.

Isabeau's standard outfit is dark-blue, reserved and proper, displaying a similar, yet feminine design as Grayson's Knight uniform.

Personality and TraitsEdit

Isabeau is characterized as being a strong-willed woman, skilled in combat and fiercely loyal to the Order. Despite her resolute demeanor, she is shown to have a competitive and rather cheeky attitude towards the other Knights.

After the death of Sebastien Malory, she shifts her focus on eliminating the Rebellion. Her level of devotion is further demonstrated when she suspects Grayson a traitor.

SigilEdit

Lady Igraine's motto is ‘Virtus Sola Nobilitas’: virtue alone ennobles.

Containing two dragons combatant, the cross Moline, the lion, a crown and a swan, Igraine’s Sigil is full of symbolism. In heraldry dragons are the most valiant defenders of treasure, whilst the crown (also shown on Perceval’s sigil) is the symbol of success – an emblem of victory, sovereignty and empire. As with Galahad’s and Perceval’s Sigil the lion symbolizes bravery, valor and strength.

The cross in the top left corner is a cross Moline, often associated with the Order of St. Benedict.

The triple crown (Introduced by Edward 1 who modeled his reign on that of Arthur) is an emblem of victory and supreme power, while the swan, which symbolizes beauty, perfection, light and love, is the standard of poets and musicians.

Legend Edit

John of Glastonbury, the 15th century monk, claimed that Igraine was descended from Helaius. Popular lore tells us that Helaius was Joseph of Arimathea's nephew - the man believed to have brought the Grail to England.

However, this portrait, found in the cellars of Westminster Palace, shows a younger woman painted in the style of The Order’s Knights. Could The Order of the 19th century have had women in prominent positions? Her pose and bearing suggest a serious, driven woman.

TriviaEdit

  • In Arthurian legend, Lady Igraine is traditionally the mother of Arthur, who was tricked by the King Uther Pendragon into sleeping with him after Merlin had transformed him into the image of her husband.
  • Early concept art shows Isabeau resembling the actress Lena Headey.
  • She is the only female character featured in promotional art and trailers before the game's release. However, Devi Nayar was briefly seen in the demo at PlayStation Experience.
  • The artbook 'Blackwater Archives' confirms Alastair is not her biological brother, verified by his line "....I love them as my own blood" within the game.
